Semi-Annual Exam

At Tender Touch Animal Hospital, we believe the key to keeping your pet healthy begins with the semi-annual pet exam. We know you want to give your pet the best care possible. These vitally important exams help us to get to know your pet both from a medical and personal standpoint. The tests we perform give us valuable information about what is normal for your pet so that if illness or injury occurs, we have a better idea of how to treat him or her.

We firmly believe these semi-annual physical exams are the simplest and best preventive step you can take for your pet. Because pets age seven times faster than we do, regular examinations are important to monitor your pet’s health. Wellness examinations along with screening blood and urine tests can establish a baseline for your pet and detect any changes early. Catching changes early, before they become serious, often means that they will be easier and less expensive to treat. We will talk to you about health problems and behaviors to look for and we will listen carefully to your questions and observations. Working together, we can help your pet to have the best health and the best life possible.

At Tender Touch, our view is that letting any animal suffer discomfort is unnecessary.

Diagnostic Services

Because your pet cannot tell us in words where he or she is uncomfortable or what ails him or her, modern diagnostic tests, combined with the physical exam, can help us pinpoint the cause of discomfort, illness, or injury and choose the right course of treatment.

Digital Radiology - Digital radiography can yet not limited for assisting in gaining more clarity about a medical issue if a blood screen indicates a possible issue with the kidneys or liver. Chest scans can get to the root of the issue for animals with suspected lung or heart problems or those having difficulty breathing. Bone and joint imaging can evaluate spinal pain or lameness.
This technology produces high quality diagnostic images far more rapidly than traditional methods, as it eliminates the need for an x-ray processor for development of the film. Instead, images are available on a monitor within minutes with less radiation exposure for pets.

Ultrasound - An Ultrasound is a non-invasive procedure used to evaluate the internal organs.

In-house Diagnostic - We have an in-house laboratory that allows for us to perform modern diagnostics for your dog or cat. This allows for us to screen for many health conditions and perform faster and more effective treatment plans.

Dentistry

Dental health is a very important part of your pet’s overall health, and dental problems can cause, or be caused by, other health problems. The process begins with an oral exam of your pet’s mouth by Dr. Monica. We will create a custom treatment plan for your pet. If your pet is in need of more than home dental care we will schedule an appointment for your pet to have a professional dental cleaning. Because most dental disease occurs below the gumline, where you can’t see it, a thorough dental cleaning and evaluation are performed under anesthesia. All patients will receive digital radiographs (x-rays) while under anesthesia to best evaluate the health of the jaw and the tooth roots below the gumline. Dental cleaning includes scaling (to remove dental plaque and tartar) and polishing, similar to the process used on your own teeth during your regular dental cleanings.

End of Life Care

Many pets that suffer with long-term chronic illnesses, such as cancer, benefit from a "quality of life" medication regimen. We emphasize making your animal friend as comfortable as possible. As you know your pet best, our staff will work with you so that the transition is calm and peaceful.

When the time comes, after considering your pet’s declining quality of life and the state of his or her health, we can offer your pet humane euthanasia. Euthanasia literally means an “easy and painless death.” You may know it as “putting a pet to sleep” or “putting an animal down.” You may be involved as much or as little as you would like every step of the way. You will have as much time as you need to be with your beloved pet so that you may honor the life of your companion and the friendship you built over the years.
